Day 4: Just Keep Swimming / WDW-40, 2016

Day 4 of WDW-40, the latest of my Disney Trip Reports, is here! Today we spent the whole day in the pool, and this day of the trip report may well be one of the shortest I write!

If you haven’t read the pre-trip planning report yet, why not have a quick read now to bring you up to speed about who we are, and why this trip report is called WDW-40! You might also want to start reading from the beginning of the report!

Some days are split into several parts; please use the page numbers at the bottom of the post to continue reading.

We were up bright and early to watch the sunrise this morning. It was so peaceful sitting on the balcony, listening to the crash of the waves, and watching as the sky changed colour before us. As the sun started to peek up over the horizon, birds suddenly flew across the sky – we noticed this every time we watched the sunrise, and it was just amazing to see.

We then had breakfast on the balcony – it was from our grocery shop the day before at Publix. In fact we self catered a lot when staying at Vero Beach!

We then got ourselves sorted out for a day at the pool! The pool is a short walk – just a couple of minutes – from The Inn, so we moseyed over, and found ourselves somewhere to set up for the day.

Full of promise that I would take Ricky the Rock Hopper with me wherever we went on this holiday (he was part of my birthday gift from my friends, who had adopted me a penguin!) I set him up for his photoshoot for the day at the pool – and he even sneaked a sip of my drink from my souvenir Crush mug! The promise was broken thereafter, I kept forgetting to bring him out and about, and then just gave up the ghost, I’m rubbish!

Disney's Vero Beach Resort Pool

We literally spent most of the day in the pool, getting out every so often to reapply sun cream, to have a drink, or to hop into the whirlpool spa.

Now apparently, the pool is Mickey Mouse shaped, but since we didn’t see it from above, I can’t comment on that! It was a nice big pool, with a couple of lifeguards on duty, and it never felt too busy when we were there. It’s been so long since I’ve been swimming, so it felt glorious to be in the water.

The Pirate’s Plunge Pool Slide is a 2-storey, 163 foot spiral water slide, which I didn’t go on, but Steve did… a lot! He was like a big kid on that thing! There is a kid’s wet play area themed as a pirate ship, with water cannons and a mini water slide for young buccaneers. It’s located right by the feature pool. No photos of that I’m afraid, I’m not sure why, because I remember seeing it. Oh well!

There were some pool floats, floating (ha!) around the pool, and some random beach balls too, for all to use – at least I assume so! The Cast Members also had activities going on pool side including games for both kids, and for all. We got involved with the trivia type games, and the rewards were usually candy!

And now, just a bunch of photos from our time in the pool…

Bleachers "On The Go" - Disney's Vero Beach Resort

There was some refurbishment works going at the resort while we were there. It didn’t affect us too much, but as I mentioned in the resort tour, some of the restaurants were closed or running at a reduced service. One of them being Bleachers, which was the poolside bar and grill. Instead, they had a bar and food service area set up in the big gazebo, called it Bleachers “On The Go” and served a restricted menu.

Since our visit everything has changed, so Bleachers no longer exists!

Anyway, it was from here that we got lunch for the day  – standard quick service fare of burgers and fries, with a couple of sodas. He also bought me the aforementioned souvenir mug, because I am a sucker for collecting those!

For dessert I had to have a Mickey Ice Cream Sandwich because they’re one of my favourite Disney snacks; So Steve bought us both one each, and he also bought a Frozen rice crispy bar, because… who knows?! Seems he went to the Island Grove Packing Company to buy those and spent $15.40 on them – so says the receipt I have.
